School Closings

Our after school enrichment program follows the Federal Government schedule.  This means that we are open a lot (even when Prince George's County Public Schools--PGCPS--is closed).  When Prince George’s has early dismissal, our after school program will close two hours early (at 4 P.M.).  In the case that inclement weather begins while your learner is in school, we will still provide transportation to our center; however, please arrange to pick your learner up as soon as possible.  On days in which inclement weather starts after your learner has arrived to school, notify us if you do not desire to have us pick your learner up from school (i.e., you plan to go and get your learner from his or her school before we arrive).

Money Talk

 Question:  When is tuition due?

Answer:  It is a practice of ours not to bother parents about money.  Our business, first, is that of getting students to be successful in their educational endeavors.  By the same token, as parents expect to receive a paycheck on payday from their employers, what we do with today’s youth is largely predicated upon the tuition parents pay for the services their learners receive.  As such, we encourage parents to remain mindful of our policy that asks that tuition be remitted in advance.  This means that on the last day that your learner is seen for the current week, ensure that tuition is remitted your for the upcoming week.

Question:  If my learner does not come to tutoring, do I have to pay?

Answer:  Whether it be our after school enrichment program or our dedicated tutoring program, students should maintain a continuous regimen of academic excellence.  This includes continuous and sustained academic coaching, management, tutoring, and enrichment.  This can only be done when your learner comes on a continuous and sustained basis.  For us, this means that unless you have arranged to withdraw your child, a tuition payment should be made.  As many of our parents know, communication is the best policy.  We believe in amicable agreements, so let us know if your learner will be gone for any entire week.

Back To School "Our Promise To Parents"

While our goals for your learners are many, we want to ensure that we are at least preparing your child for the Maryland State Assessments (MSAs), ensuring that your child’s homework is complete (and accurate), and strengthening any academic weaknesses your child may have.  In a nutshell, we trust your student, and we will give your learner an opportunity to tell us whether or not they have homework.  To ensure that homework is being done, we will also ask to view your child’s agenda.  If all else fails (and with your permission) we will inspect your child’s bookbag to make sure nothing is being over looked.

Parents have been nice enough to give us a grace period that allowed us to “get our bearings straight” regarding the management of getting homework completed, and it has been hit or miss in some cases.  As already stated, we will do our part (and, in many cases, go above and beyond the call of duty) to get the job done.

Remember, we are only one part of that collaborative process that ensures that your child is successful in school.  We ask parents that they ensure they do their part by reminding students to come to Up To Par ready to complete their homework.  We ask parents that they ensure that their child is bringing the necessary tools to our center in order to complete his or her homework.  We ask that parents remind students to be forthright with Up To Par teachers regarding whether or not they (the student) has homework as well as ensuring that the student is writing his or her homework into some type of agenda.  We can work wonders in the lives of children academically, but if a learner is completing his or her homework and just not turning it in, then we have a different problem that we have to work together to solve.  In like fashion, if a student is forgetting to write down his or her homework or just not being forthright with Up To Par staff about whether or not he or she has homework, we, as a team, must work together to solve that problem as well.
